Herrroooo hunaaay! As real estate agents in South Florida, we come across many homes. Knowing some Feng Shui through our culture and being raised by our father that has studied Feng Shui for over 20 years has been an advantage for us. The philosophy of feng shui is a practice of looking at our living spaces and working environment and striking a balance with the natural world. We would like to share some basic Feng Shui tips for your home. Since many of us are stuck at home during this time of self-quarantine, you can take full advantage of decluttering and bringing in all the positive chi!
Feng Shui is an ancient science used to create a harmonious, balanced and auspicious environment of universal energy “chi” also channeled in Tai Chi. The philosophy of feng shui was developed in China dating back to 400 B.C. It is a practice of looking at our living spaces and working environment and striking a balance with the natural world. The Chinese words feng shui translates to “feng" meaning “wind” and "shui" “ meaning water.
Balance is achieved through the interaction of 5 important elements. Wood, Metal, Earth, Water, and Fire! Feng Shui can get very detailed but we are going to keep it simple for you today. So, when it comes to your home- your bedroom, bathroom, and kitchen have the utmost importance for your health and well being. Also, the entry to your home should be inviting and clear of clutter. Clutter is a big NO-NO! Your home should be clutter-free.
Here are some basic feng shui tips for your home:
Front door
You want to make sure you have a strong front door so that you can welcome in all the positive energy!
The front door is referred to as the mouth of chi, the portal of energy.
The direct alignment of the front door straight to the back door should be avoided. When this occurs all the good Feng Shui energy coming through your main door and flows right out the back door without nourishing your home. However, it is not ideal to move to a new house or reconstruct your home so you can redirect the energy by placing plants, furniture, or sofas to help circulate the chi.
Bedroom
Furniture in the bedroom needs to be symmetrical for balance and access to both sides of the bed creating a good flow for the chi
No junk under the bed - storage under the bed can obstruct your sleeping pattern because the movement of energy cannot flow evenly.
Generally speaking, you want your bed located so that when you’re lying in bed, you can see the door of the bedroom. This can get a little tricky since there are other factors that can play a part in this but we can save that for another day.
A mirror helps energy flow- BUT if placed incorrectly it can be a culprit to sleepless nights, restlessness, amplifies your worries and/or the cause of unrest. Do not place the mirror reflecting the bed. This means next to the bed, in front of the bed, above the bed.
Symmetrical mirrors above nightstand - amplify the energy.
Bathroom
This is another tricky one since it has many factors in determining good or bad Feng Shui. Generally speaking always keep the bathroom clean and tidy. Water represents wealth, prosperity, cash flow, career, and circulation of your wealth. Good chi energy is alive, vibrant, and pure. Yet, the bathroom is deposits of germs which creates de-natured chi. So keep that toilet seat down and the door closed. No mirror reflecting toilet/trash and add an air purifying plant to the bathroom to balance the space.
Kitchen
The kitchen is part of the home that nourishes and sustains life. It is the symbol of wealth and prosperity.
Always keep your countertops free of clutter, cupboards in order, and dispose of any garbage every day.
Knives should be kept in a drawer; if you have a knife block then this should be kept inside a cupboard, not on top of the worktops.
Avoid painting your kitchen red, this is to avoid an imbalance of fire energy already created by the stovetop.
A bowl of fresh fruit (symbolizes- fruition, enhances positive energy and longevity)
We hope this information has been useful to you. Take advantage of this time and get rid of all that negative energy and radiate the positive chi! Let’s Flourish!
